Welcome to the online home of the Bodmin Railway Preservation Society.
The Bodmin & Wenford Railway (BWR) is the only standard gauge (full size) railway in Cornwall still regularly operated by steam locomotives. We run regular Steam (and some Diesel) hauled trains for tourists and enthusiasts between Bodmin Parkway and Boscarne Junction via our principal station at Bodmin General, a distance of 6½ miles. The Railway offers our visitors an opportunity to relax in style and enjoy a leisurely journey through beautiful countryside, taking in the sights, sounds and smells of a bygone age, as the era of a Cornish branch line in the 1950s reveals itself during the course of your journey.
The BWR is actively supported by the Bodmin Railway Preservation Society (BRPS), the railway’s membership organization, which currently has over 1,000 members. The BRPS is active in many areas of the railway and helps provide the continually improving heritage experience that is the BWR.
The vast majority of people who operate our railway are unpaid volunteers, all of whom are members of the BRPS. Operating our 125 year old railway, comprising bridges, track, buildings, signalling, locomotives and rolling stock is an expensive business, and the support received from the BRPS and its members helps keep steam alive in Cornwall.
